Dreamweaver and Fireworks Greeting Card

Use Fireworks sprays by Imagine Crafts and a Dreamweaver stencil to create this beautiful shimmery background. The flowers were also sprayed with Fireworks. Unfortunately the shimmer does't show up in the photo but the card looks gorgeous in person.

Making the Card

1. Cut indicated cardstock to sizes below:

Lavender 7x10 inches
Periwinkle 4 3/4 x 6 3/4 inches
Stardream Quartz 5x7 (2 pieces if you want to press leftover ink from the stencil on one)

2. Fold lavender piece in half to form a 5x7 inch card base.

3. Die cut Scripty Hello once each from periwinkle and lavender cardstock, and three times from Stardream quartz cardstock.

4. Watch the video below to create the background papers, color the flowers, and stack the Scripty Hello die cuts. Note: I cut my background down to be even around the stencil outline so I added an extra strip of sprayed cardstock on the right side to make up the difference.

5. Optional: adhere small purple rhinestone to Scripty Hello as shown.

Supplies
  • Fireworks: Rhubarb Stalk, Lulu Lavender, Paris Dusk, Danube Blue
  • Dreamweaver Stencil: Mosaic Swirls
  • Cardstock: Periwinkle, Lavender
  • Neenah Stardream Quartz Pearlescent Cardstock
  • Petaloo Flowers: Wild Rose (Color Me Crazy)
  • Lawn Fawn Die: Scripty Hello
  • Optional: Small Purple Rhinestone

Window on an Embossed Wall Card

Made for the ECD Susan Tierney-Cockburn Design Team

I was so excited when I received the Carolina Window & Shutters dies by Susan Tierney-Cockburn; I just love windows for cards! I've been waiting to use it for a special design - I didn't want to just do the standard Christmas window with wreath (although they do look great) or a window with curtains. I finally decided on a monochromatic white design, using recycled plastic packaging for the panes of glass. I also love how the embossed wall creates a wonderful textured background.

Making the Card

1. Cut white cardstock 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches; fold in half for a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch card base.

2. Cut white cardstock 3 7/8 x 5 1/8 inches. Emboss with Flower Mosaic. Adhere to front of card (note: you may want to use a liquid glue to get it to really stick down).

3. Die cut from white cardstock: 2 window frames (you won't need shutters - keep them for another project or recycle them), 3 sets of vines, 4 sets of flowers (32 total). Shape leaves by drawing a line down the middle of each. Shape petals by drawing a line down each petal then rubbing in the middle with a ball stylus; on half the flowers, press harder and/or use smaller ball stylus to make center petals; this makes them cup up more. Stack center petals on base petals, gluing offset. I use Kids Choice Glue for all my flowers.

4. Using scrap leftovers from one of the windows as a template, place it just higher than center on the card. Draw a pencil guide line a little inside the template (do not draw shutters). Using a craft knife, cut window into front of card inside guide line - you want a lip on which to glue the frame but not enough to show beyond the window frame. Draw a similar guide on a piece of clear plastic packaging using an alcohol based marker, like a Sharpie. Cut along guide with scissors. Glue plastic on backside of one window fame (trim if necessary). I used Gem-Tac Glue for this. Glue to front of card, covering hole. Glue remaining frame inside card to give it a finished look.

5. Adhere one vine starting at bottom left below window as shown. Leave branches free (i.e. don't glue them down). Cut bases off other vines and glue them starting under the first vine - you want them to look like they are all one vine. Trim them apart if necessary.

6. Adhere flowers as shown. Adhere one white pearl bead in center of each with Gem-Tac Glue.

Textured Watercolor Valentine's Day Card

Made as part of the Imagine Crafts Artist in Residence Team

I made this card for my husband for Valentine's day (which is why it posted after instead of before... he reads my posts!). Not only was the image fun to color, the flowers were fun to make too - and really easy. The only tricky part was drying them with the heat tool. Next time I think I will put them in a box so they won't blow around so much!

Making the Card

Card base: cream cardstock 5x7 inches (cut 7x10 inches, fold in half)
Brown paper: 3 15/16 x 5 3/16 inches, 4 1/2 x 6 1/4 inches, 4 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches
Striped paper: 4 1/4 x 6 inches
Newsprint paper: 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches

Elegant Golden Roses Birthday Card

Made for the ECD Susan Tierney-Cockburn Design Team

I recently bought some FineTec mica watercolor paints. I was amazed to see how incredibly shiny and beautiful they are. The gold makes the card look really elegant. Just be aware that the paint may flake off on smooth cardstock so be sure to shape the flowers before adding the watercolor. This card could easily be made into a wedding or anniversary card just by changing the sentiment.

Making the Card

1. Cut white cardstock 5 1/4x10 inches; fold in half for a 5x5 1/4 inch card base. Go around outer three edges with Tibet Gold FineTec Artist Mica Watercolor.

2. Die cut two copies of Grapevine Wreath from white cardstock. Add Tibet Gold to parts of one. Shape by rubbing ball stylus along outside branches on both copies. Adhere copy with gold to card base then adhere white copy on top (in a different orientation so the branches will be offset).

3. Die cut label (Katie Label Pivot Card) from white cardstock. Go around edges with Tibet Gold.

4. Die cut 5 or 6 copies of Happy Birthday from white cardstock. Glue all but one copy lined up on top of one another to form a thick stack. Paint edges with Tibet Gold (try not to get any gold paint on the front or back of the words - the glue won't stick to it well). Adhere final (white) copy to top of stack.

5. Die cut roses (Garden Notes - Rose 2, Garden Patch - 1 1/2-inch & Mini Roses) from white cardstock. If you want fuller roses, just cut some extra petals. Shape petals and leaves as shown in the video below (cut leaves off stem - discard stem) and assemble flowers. Paint edges of petals and leaves with Tibet Gold. Adhere flowers and leaves as shown. Note: I used Kids Choice Glue - it works really well.

6. Adhere gold beads as shown.

Wishing Well with Flowers Card

Made for the ECD Susan Tierney-Cockburn Design Team

I used a few of the new dies by Susan Tierney-Cockburn to make this well wishing card (pun intended). The 3D flowers are super cute and really look great. I had fun coloring the pieces, which all started as white! Hint: do a Google image search if you need a model for coloring.

Making the Card

1. Cut green cardstock to 7x10 inches. Fold in half for a 5x7 inch card base. Cut black cardstock 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches. Attach to front of card. Cut light green patterned paper to 4 1/4 x 6 inches; attach to card lining up at top. Die cut darker green patterned paper with CountryScapes Grass edge, about 1 1/4 inches from bottom, then trim to 4 1/4 inches wide. Adhere to card as shown.

2. Die cut grass (Garden Bench set) from darker green patterned paper or use extra grass from step above. Optional: add shading with alcohol markers. Die cut "Well" (Get Well Soon): one copy from darker green patterned paper, two copies from black cardstock. Glue black copies together, lined up. Glue green copy on top but slightly offset so black will show as a shadow.

3. Die cut the following from alcohol marker friendly cardstock: well top, base, bucket, stones (CountryScapes Wishing Well), vase, leaves, 2 sets of flower petals (CountryScapes Backyard 2), basket, leaves, flowers (CountryScapes Flora 5).

4. Color each with alcohol markers (or whatever else you would like to use). I used Copic markers (see list of colors at bottom of Supplies).

5. For each rose, put a small strip of glue down the inside spiral; roll using tweezers. Shape "cosmea" flower petals with small ball stylus on molding pad. For each flower, layer two offset from each other. Optional: add a small dot of Daffodil Liquid Pearls to centers. Shape leaves by rubbing with medium ball stylus (also rub on back of base of large leaf clump to pop it out a little). Glue cosmea flowers to large leaf clump as shown.

6. Shape vase and basket by rubbing behind them with medium ball stylus (you may want to add a little shaping to the bucket too). I also cut the basket handle away from the back side of the basket so I could pop it forward.

7. Adhere well, top, bucket on hook, grass, vase, basket, and flowers as shown. If you cut the handle away from basket, use dimensional tape to pop it forward, as well as the basket.

8. Type "Wishing You" in word processing program; print on dark green patterned paper. You may have to temporarily attach it to a full sheet of paper to run it through the printer - use adhesive along the top where it won't be printing; don't use tape. Trim to a strip. Cut flag tails ("V" shape) as shown. Adhere to black cardstock, trim around. Adhere to card where shown.

9. Adhere "Well" and coin as shown.

Flowered Grapevine Wreath Oval Thank You Card

Made for the Susan Tierney-Cockburn Design Team

The new papers from Elizabeth Craft Designs are the perfect backdrops for cards. Here I used a couple of the new releases by Susan Tierney-Cockburn to make a colorful three dimensional thank you card.

Making the Card

1. Cut cardstock 7x10 inches; fold in half to form a 5x7 inch card base. Cut shown Stone paper to 4 1/8 x 6 inches; cut black cardstock to 4 1/4 x 6 1/8 inches. Adhere Stone paper to black cardstock then adhere to card base as shown.

2. Optional: add double sided adhesive to the back of kraft cardstock before die cutting. Die cut Grapevine Wreath Oval from kraft cardstock. Adhere to center of card.

3. Using Mini Botanicals Primrose dies, cut the 4 leaf sets from dark green cardstock. Die cut one set of small Primrose flowers from red, purple, fuchsia, and blue-violet cardstock. Add a dot of Daffodil Liquid Pearls to the center of each. Watch the video below for shaping and assembly.

4. Using Garden Notes Zinnia, die cut 2 large and 1 small petals from both red and fuchsia cardstock. Die cut 4 filaments (looks like a comb) from burgundy cardstock and 2 sets of disk florets (tiny flowers) from yellow cardstock. Die cut 3 large and 2 small leaves from green cardstock. Shade with ink or alcohol markers (Copics: G46 leaves, RV29 and RV55 petals). I drew a couple lines down the middle of each petal and colored about half of each leaf for some subtle shading.

5. Shape the petals by rubbing a ball stylus on the back of each on a molding pad, then flip and rub the ball stylus in the center to form a sort of cup. For each color flower, glue the large petal layers together, offset from one another; glue the small petals on top. Press a small ball stylus in the center of each disk floret (yellow). Curve two sets of filaments (burgundy) so they will go inward (run a ball stylus down them); bend the tops of each of the other two sets back. Add glue down the base of one that curves inward and roll it up, then add the one with the bent tops facing outward to the outside of it. Do this with the other set as well. Glue one set to center of each flower. Glue the florets on the outward bending filaments to for a circle around the center. Rub each leaf with the ball stylus on the back, flip, then draw a line down the middle with the leaf tool (pointy end).

6. Die cut 2 copies of the vines from Mini Botanical Clematis. Cut bottom off to separate into two pieces each. You may want to cut one again depending on how you want them to lay. Draw a line down each leaf on the molding pad using the leaf tool (pointy end). Adhere to wreath as shown, leaving leaves free to pop up for dimension (i.e. do not add glue behind them) - there should be a gap where you will put the Zinnia flowers. Glue flowers as shown.

7. Die cut 2 copies of Thanks from dark green cardstock and one copy from light green cardstock. Glue the dark green copies together to form a stack. Glue the light green copy on top offset a little (you may also just glue it on top if it's too tricky). Glue to card as shown.

Twinkling H2Os Tiny Tattered Florals Card

Hope y'all had a wonderful 4th of July weekend! I'm having fun creating a beautiful shimmery card using Twinkling H2Os, Silks, Texture Paste, and a few other goodies. I'm applying to the ColourArte Design Team - so wish me luck! I just love ColourArte products!

Making the Card

1. Wet Twinkling H2Os; I use a small spray bottle filled with water to give each a couple spritzes.

2. Cut a panel of watercolor paper about 4 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches. Tape down to a craft sheet or other flat surface using painter's tape. Generously wet the entire front using spray bottle or paint brush. Drop in the following colors of Twinkling H2Os: Summer Breeze, Bashful Blue, Sea Spray, and Mystique. Let them blend in some places. Dry panel with heat tool or let it dry naturally.

3. Splatter with drops of water randomly across the panel. Let sit for a few seconds then blot off with paper towel. This removes or lightens the color in those places.

4. Mix a small amount of both Texture Paste and Silks Vintage Mint until color is completely integrated with paste (you could also leave it marbled if you like that look). Tape or firmly hold down stencil over paper and apply colored paste with palette knife. I applied some paste to the left and right sides, leaving the middle alone. Set aside to dry. Note: immediately wash stencil and palette knife, before paste dries.

5. On about half of a sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 inch white cardstock, spray with water until just wet. Randomly paint with Twinkling H20s: Luv-u-Pink, Chiffon Pink, and Dreams Bloom. Wet as necessary but don't rub too hard; cardstock has a more delicate surface than watercolor paper. Add Hopeful Honeysuckle sparingly in some spots. Dry.

6. Die cut 3 different sizes of Tiny Tattered Florals and one "hello" sentiment using Lawn Fawn Scripty Hello die. Note: I usually cut extra in case some come out better than others. Add Hopeful Honeysuckle to the petal bases, leaving the tips alone so they will be lighter in color. This will add dimension to the flowers. To shape petals, rub back of each with ball stylus to get them to cup slightly. Roll flowers as instructed on packaging; glue to center area - the part that is larger than the rest of the petals.

7. Cut green/blue cardstock to 4 1/4 x 11 inches. Fold in half to form a card base. Trim unpainted edges of watercolor panel, it should be about 4 x 5 1/4 inches. Adhere panel to center of card front.

8. Die cut at least 3 different sized leaves from green/blue cardstock. Add Summer Breeze to front of leaves then add a little Mystique at the base of each for some shading. Once dry, rub ball stylus along backs then draw a line down the front of each center with die pick or leaf tool (pointy end).

9. Die cut four copies of "hello" from white cardstock. One at a time, line up and adhere each together to form a thick stack. Add pink copy to the top. Adhere flowers, leaves, and "hello" to card front as shown.

Decoupage Plate Filled with Flowers

Created for the ECD Susan Tierney Cockburn Design Team

Our local craft store was selling a bunch of grab bags for $2 each. I usually don't bother with them but in a moment of crafty weakness, I picked up three (!). They contained a variety of things, from bubble bath to stickers. The best surprise was several packages of enamel dots, in various colors - score! One bag contained a small black plate with some sort of saying on it. I decided to repurpose it into a decoration piece. You could use any small plate, e.g. one purchased at a thrift store.

Making the Project

1. Place plate face down on patterned paper, keeping in mind the design. Lightly trace around it in pencil. You will cut about a third to half of an inch out from the line so some paper will wrap around back of plate. Erase line. Apply decoupage medium both on back of paper and on plate, including around back where paper will wrap around edge. Center paper and stick down, rubbing out any bubbles. There may be some wrinkles, just work them out as best as possible. I put the majority of wrinkles on one side of the plate so I could cover them. Alternatively, you could tear the paper for both front and back of plate (see step 2). Coat paper with decoupage medium.

2. Flip plate. Tear pieces of patterned paper and apply to plate to cover bottom, coating both plate and paper with decoupage medium each time. I left the center uncovered but you could cover the entire bottom if you like. Cover entire back with decoupage medium.

3. Tear strips of washi tape (I used yellow-orange, red, and red with white dots); adhere to one side of plate - see photo. The washi tape may start to peel up; just rub it back down. Cover washi tape with decoupage medium (this should prevent it from coming up). Note: I covered the worst wrinkles this way.

4. Stamp Sunshine and Love in waterproof black ink on tissue paper (the regular semi-translucent white type); heat-set ink. Carefully tear around sentiment. Decoupage to plate where shown. The tissue should become almost transparent.

5. Flowers: I usually make extra flowers whenever I make them thus I had a few on hand.
  • To make vellum Mini Roses, Mini Chrysanthemums, and Mini Daisies, see Flower Tag Birthday Card. Similarly, make two additional Mini Roses plus leaves using red and dark green cardstock.
  • To make Hollyhock blossoms, cut four sets of petals and petal bases from light pink cardstock. Color centers with yellow pencil then watercolor Worn Lipstick Distress Ink, leaving the tips light pink (see photo). Cut four stamen from yellow cardstock; add glue to bases and tightly roll. Dip tips in glue then in Antique Linen Distress Powder to simulate pollen. Shape petals by rubbing stylus along back tips then in front center of each. Glue single petals between base petals, lining up Worn Lipstick in a ring on each flower. Glue stamen standing in center. Cut four leaves from green cardstock. Draw veins with light green pencil; add shading by watercoloring Mowed Lawn Distress Ink. Shape by rubbing stylus along backs then use leaf tool to draw lines down centers.
  • To make Mini Daffodils, cut three sets of parts from white paper: petals (six total for each flower), center, and stamen. Use Mustard Seed Distress Ink to color center and stamen (I used an ink blending tool to apply). Shape petals by drawing lines down front, then back, with point of leaf tool. Make centers into cylinders (you may have to trim off a little), glue, then gently roll tops down (see photo). Cut carefully down middle of stamen prongs to form six on each. Apply glue at bottom and roll. Gently separate tips, dip into glue, then into Mustard Seed Distress Powder to simulate pollen. Cut three calyx from green cardstock. Rub in centers until they slightly cup. For each flower, glue three largest petals, one each on every other calyx extension. Glue smaller petals in between. Glue center cylinder, then stamen as shown. Cut leaves from green cardstock, color with light green pencil and shade with watercolored Mowed Lawn Distress Ink. Shape by rubbing stylus down middle of each then draw a line down center with leaf tool.
6. Adhere flowers and leaves where shown.

7. Cut ladybug from black cardstock. Add red Pearl Pen to body. Add black Enamel Accents for head and bottom. Use toothpick or pointy tool to add dots.

8. Adhere ladybug and black half pearls as shown.

Country Scape Thank You Card

This card was made with the CountryScapes dies by Susan Tierney Cockburn to create a cute little scene. The flowers add bright colors and the animals are just fun.

Making the Card

1. Cut blue cardstock 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches (half of 8 1/2 x 11 sheet). Fold in half to create a card base.

2. Cut dark teal cardstock 4 x 5 1/4 inches. Cut white cardstock 3 3/4 x 5 inches. Emboss white piece with Clouds embossing folder. Using ink blending took, add Tumbled Glass Distress Ink to raised clouds. Adhere to dark teal. Adhere these to card front.

3. Cut green cardstock 4 1/4 x about 3 inches. Die cut with grass from Outdoor Edges so that the piece will be about 4 1/4 x 2 1/2 to top of grass. Using blending tool, ink with Peeled Paint Distress Ink starting at grass, going partway down. With large stylus (8mm) from Tools, rub gently along front of grass blades so they will pop forward slightly on the card. Adhere to bottom of card as shown.

4. Die cut Fence and Wheel from kraft cardstock. Die cut five more copies of wheel from dark brown cardstock. Add Distress Ink shading around bottoms and various edges of the kraft copies. I used Walnut Stain for the fence and Brushed Corduroy for the wheel. Add details with various brown colored pencils. I used lighter browns on the wheel. Rub the large stylus down each "plank" on back of fence to give it some shape. Add dimensional tape behind top of the two posts; adhere with glue at the bottom of the fence as shown (you want the top to pop forward but not the bottom). Line up and glue the dark brown wheels together to form a thick stack; glue the decorated kraft copy on top.

5. Die cut the long piece of Flora from light green cardstock. Ink with Peeled Paint starting at the bottom working toward the middle and Crushed Olive starting at the top. Run the small stylus along the backs of the stems and grass to give them shape. Die cut two large groups of small flowers from light purple cardstock. Ink edges lightly with Faded Jeans. On molding pad, gently rub small stylus in center of each flower then press to make small cups. Glue flowers to flower stems as shown. Hint: glue one to each stem then let it set up before gluing a second, etc.

6. Add glue just along bottom of Flora (i.e. grass and purple flowers). Don't worry about trimming yet: adhere so they cover the bottom of the fence posts, keeping the flowers are all on the card. Add a little glue behind a few of the flowers touching the fence. From back side of card, trim any hanging off.

7. Die cut cardinal (bluebird shown on packaging) and squirrel from the Country Critters set; color with pencils. I enhanced them, especially along the edges, with alcohol ink. Shape them slightly by rubbing with stylus on back of each. Optional: for the eyes, add black Enamel Accents with a tooth pick.

8. Die cut two sets of daisies (yellow cardstock) from Backyard set plus stems (light green cardstock). Lightly ink one set of petals with Spiced Marmalade and another set with Wild Honey. Color centers with brown pencil (see photo). Shape by rubbing along petals (front side). Glue the lighter layer on top of the darker, lining up the brown "centers" but offsetting the petals slightly (hint: you don't have to match the same ones together). Optional: add glue to centers and dip into dark brown embossing powder. Ink/color both sets of grass (you only need to color the leaves on one). Rub all leaves in centers to give them dimension. Cut the leaves off one and adhere to other where desired. Glue stems/leaves to bottom of wheel as shown.

9. Adhere the wheel to front of card as shown. Add daisies. Use dimensional tape to adhere squirrel and cardinal. Optional: shade with Peeled Paint under squirrel and wheel.

10. Cut four sets of Thank You words from dark teal cardstock and one set from blue. Glue dark teal copies together, lining up each layer, to form a thick stack. Glue blue copy to top. Adhere to card as shown.

Lily on Velvet Greeting Card

This card features some of the beautiful Susan Tierney Cockburn's lilies. The subtle flower embossed velvet background makes a soft backdrop to the 3D flowers.

Making the Card

1. Cut pink cardstock 5 1/2 x 8 1/2; fold in half to form a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 card base.

2. Cut pink velvet about 3 3/4 x 5 1/4. Emboss with Bouquet embossing folder. Cut embossed velvet frame 1001 Garden Patch - 1 1/2-inch & Mini Roses. Also cut black cardstock frame.

3. Glue black frame (only) to center of card front. Peel off backing and adhere each velvet embossed square in the same locations as they were cut, but in the black frame.

4. 995 Garden Notes - Lily: cut two stems from green cardstock, one set of leaves from green cardstock, and two sets of all the petals from red cardstock. Color and shape.

5. Adhere flowers to front of card as shown. I cut off the leaves and across the center of one stem to re-arrange them where I wanted. Adhere bow as shown.

6. Cut four copies of Hello in pink cardstock. Cut one copy in red. Line up and adhere pink copies together to make a thick Hello. Optional: shade red copy. Adhere red copy to top of stack. Adhere Hello to front of card as shown.

Black and White Chrysanthemum Sympathy Card

I wanted to make a clean and simple card design using mini chrysanthemums. I also wanted to use my Washi tape (I've been collecting too much of it and the guilt is starting to get to me!). The idea was to make the little yellow centers of the chrysanthemums pop against the black and white background.

My other goal with this card was to make it a sort of non-traditional sympathy card (or just a card to send to someone who is otherwise having a tough time). The small stamped words are more subtle than the usual stamped sentiments.

Making the Card

1. Cut white cardstock 7 x 10 inches; fold in half to form a 5 x7 inch card base.

2. Mask around "faith" on the Planted in Faith stamp with Post-it Tape (or Notes). Ink in black, remove Post-its, and stamp on scrap of white cardstock. Cut out the word. Ink lightly on edges. Do the same with "Hope" and "Love" from Hope stamp and Sunshine and Love stamp respectively.

3. From white cardstock and the Mini Daisy & Chrysanthemum dies, cut 3 large chrysanthemum petals, 3 medium chrysanthemum petals, and 6 small chrysanthemum petals. Color 3 small chrysanthemum petals in light yellow (I used Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink on both sides).

4. Shape the petals using the Metal Tools and Mini Moulding Pad. I place each medium and large flower on the pad and draw a line down the middle of each petal with the fine pointed leaf tool. Press in the middle with the large or medium stylus (8mm or 5mm ball) to cup each, slightly for the large, more with the medium. Use small scissors (I use ECD Scissors), cut down the center of each of the yellow petals (don't go into the center area). With the smallest stylus (2mm ball) rub down each petal of the small white petals. Rub in the center of the small petals to form a tighter cup. Press harder in the center of the yellow ones to form the smallest cups. Stack and glue the layers from large to small, with the yellow ones in the center.

5. Add a variety of black and white Washi tapes to the right side of the card (see photo). Die cut squares from black cardstock using Garden Patch - 1 1/2-inch & Mini Roses frame (I had kept the extras from making another card where I just used the black frame).

6. Adhere the top black square as shown in the photo. Use dimensional tape to adhere the other black square slightly overlapping the first. Use dimensional tape to adhere all the words. Adhere the flowers and enamel dots as shown.
