Cute Teddy Bear No Line Coloring Birthday Card

Here is a little scene I put together using Dreamerland Crafts stamps, Distress Oxide inks, and Faber-Castell Polychromos colored pencils. I used Memento Desert Sand to stamp the image for no line coloring. It's helpful to have a black stamped image nearby as well in case you can't see some of the lines (I didn't do this and accidentally colored her dress a bit longer in back than it was on the stamp, oops!).

Instead of solvent blending, I used lighter and medium colors to blend over sections that needed smoothing. Overall I kept some of the texture since I liked the look. Since I wanted the focus to be on the main image, I kept the background and card simple. Have you tried no line coloring?

Making the Card

1. Use Stamp Platform to stamp Cute Teddy Bear in StazOn Jet Black ink on Stamp Masking Paper, leaving stamp mounted for step 2. Fussy cut around image using detail scissors. Use craft knife on a cutting mat to cut around inside areas.

2. Cut a piece of Canson Bristol Paper about 5x6 inches (it doesn't need to be this big but I like to leave some of wiggle room for stamping and die cutting). Stamp Cute Teddy Bear (Dreamerland Crafts stamp set) in Memento Desert Sand ink leaving a bit more room on the left side for flowers and butterflies.

3. Use black Copic Multiliner SP to fill in bear's eye, nose, and mouth and girls's eye and mouth. The SP versions of Multiliners are more economical in the long run as they are refillable and the nibs can be changed - they also reduce the amount of plastic going into land fills. (Note: I used sepia for her mouth and cool gray for her eye; the mouth looks OK but you can't really tell in the eye.)

4. Place mask over image. I recommend working on a craft sheet. Use another mask to make a slight hill. It will start near the bottom of the stump - see photo (you may also use Post-it Tape). I just cut a slight arc with my scissors, keeping both pieces. Cover the bottom while blending the sky, then do the reverse when blending the grass area. With a blending tool using Salty Ocean Distress Oxide ink, start from the top just off the paper using circular motions to create the sky, stopping short of the grass line. Change the masks to blend the grass area in a similar manner using Mowed Lawn and Lucky Clover Distress Oxide inks (using two colors gives it some variation and shading). Remove the mask covering the sky area. Using the same colors for the lawn and the Just Dance with Me (Dreamerland Crafts) grass stamp, use 2nd and 3rd generation stamping to cover the hill side with grass (2nd/3rd generation stamping is done by inking stamp and stamping off on a piece of scrap paper, then, without re-inking, stamping in the image area a couple times for lighter stamping).

5. Stamp butterflies and flowers where shown using stamps from Just Dance with Me. I stamped the butterflies with Ripe Persimmon Distress Oxide ink and flowers with Candied Apple and Mustard Seed. Hint: I used the corner of my stamp pad to ink flowers individually so I could stamp flowers in different colors at the same time. Alternatively, you could ink and stamp each flower one at a time, cleaning stamp in between.

6. Use Faber-Castell Polychromos colored pencils to color image, add stems and leaves to flowers, color centers of flowers, and draw bodies on butterflies. Use a light touch in small oval motions to cover areas with pencil, building up layers. Also blend with pencils, e.g. by going over light colored areas with white or cream pencils to create and blend highlights.

7. Cut black cardstock 5x10 inches; fold in half to form a 5x5 inch card base. Cut patterned paper 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 inches. I used a sheet from My Mind's Eye: Filled with Love but it is likely hard to find; you may want to check out Doodlebug Design's Rainbow Petite Prints papers - they have many colors and light patterns that are perfect for backgrounds. Adhere to card base. Pick out two circular dies, such as those from Hero Arts Infinity Dies Nesting Circle dies, that will fit on the front of the card as shown. To die cut image, use the next smaller Large Dotted Circle Stackables die that will fit inside the two you selected.

8. Use Stamp Platform to stamp Happy Birthday (Dreamerland Crafts Birthday 11) in Memento Tuxedo Black ink where shown on image (note: I cut my sentiment stamp so that I may stack the words - if you don't want to cut your stamp, then you will have to mask or ink selectively). Die cut brown cardstock and black cardstock with selected circle dies; adhere each as shown to the front of the card, with the image on top.

Celebrate Today Card with Copic Colored Image

Hello and welcome! Some of you may be new to my blog since Dreamerland Crafts is introducing the 2019 design team and today is my day! This is a fun and fairly easy card to make. I will do a little paper piecing (just a little) to give it a more interesting look (it's the lazy way to color a dress!).

Please help support my blog by using the links if you are planning to buy some crafty goods - it doesn't cost you anything but helps me in a small way. I actually buy most of my supplies... way outspending what I get from companies and from my small earnings, much to my husband's consternation. You do not have to buy the item you click on either - anything you purchase from the linked store after clicking will help, just keep in mind that the cookie (used to track where you came from) will expire not long after clicking so if you would like to support this blog, click just before making a purchase. Know that I really appreciate it!

If you like my work, you may want to subscribe via email (Feedburner) or Bloglovin' - you may find the links to both on the right side, below all the badges (there's also a Bloglovin' link at the end of this post).

Making the Card

1. If your Dreamerland Crafts Photographer stamp is new, I recommend conditioning it with a little VersaMark ink before using; just tap some on and wipe with a finger such that some of the stick stays on it. From the Doodlebug Hello Sunshine pad, find the brown pattern sheets shown, using the small print for the dress. Mount stamp on Stamp Platform - you may alternatively use an acrylic block but the Stamp Platform not only allows you to more precisely position the stamp but also re-stamp if it doesn't go well the first time. Use Tuxedo Black Memento Dew Drop ink pad to tap ink only in the dress area of the stamp (if using the full pad, you may want to mask off the other parts when inking then remove before stamping) and stamp in a corner of the patterned paper.

Optional: I recommend cleaning stamps with the Lawn Fawn Stamp Shammy. It cleans really well, does not leave lint behind, and is better for the environment than using baby wipes. I do not put it in a container to keep it wet from session to session - it will grow bacteria. Better to let it dry naturally then rewet the next time you use it. Note: it used to annoy me that it was so hard when dry but I got used to it. It only take a few seconds of wetting and wringing to get it pliable.

2. Ink the stamp again across the entire design and stamp on a piece of X-Press It Blending Card.

3. Color image with Copic markers (or other alcohol markers). You may color the dress area with dark gray or black (in case the fussy cut dress wasn't perfect - this will hide minor issues), or just leave it white (if the fussy cut dress fits perfectly). Optional: add some shadows to the dress, e.g. in the skirt creases. The colors I used are listed under Supplies.

4. Use a pair of detail scissors to fussy cut around patterned dress, hummingbird, and photographer. To get into the small areas, use a craft knife and self-healing cutting mat. From the back side, go around the outside edges with the brush end of a Tuxedo Black Memento Dual marker. This gives it a finished look by hiding any white edges. Adhere dress to photographer.

5. Cut a piece of dark pink cardstock 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches; fold in half to form a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch card base. Cut black cardstock 4 x 5 1/4 inches. Adhere to card base using Xyron Tape Runner or other permanent adhesive. From Doodlebug Hello Sunshine pad, find the brown background paper shown on card front; trim to 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 inches. Adhere to card base.

6. From light blue cardstock, die cut two clouds (Outdoor Scene). From light pink cardstock, die cut cross-stitched square. Adhere to card base where shown. Adhere small cloud where shown. Use dimensional tape to adhere hummingbird and photographer as shown.

7. Put a piece of dark pink cardstock in Stamp Platform; brush with powder tool to prevent extraneous embossing powder from sticking where you don't want it. Stamp Celebrate Today (Dreamerland Crafts Birthday 11 stamp set) in VersaMark ink. Heat emboss with Pink Peony. Trim as shown. Cut black cardstock just a tiny bit larger; I just eyeball it: with the trimmed sentiment in a corner of the black cardstock leaving the amount I want around the two edges, and mark the other two edges with a pencil then cut. Adhere sentiment to black. Adhere to card using dimensional tape.

Screen Time Texting Card with Xyron and Lawn Fawn

Xyron, Lawn Fawn Collab - Screen Time Texting Card with Copic

This is a collaboration project between Xyron and Lawn Fawn. Lawn Fawn gave the Xyron Design
Team a $25 credit to spend on their website. They also sent us a couple sheets of paper and a length of trimmings (twin) to play with. I ordered the Screen Time stamp set and a couple small dies (not used on this card). I bought the other stamps and dies myself. I'm a huge fan of Lawn Fawn and have a big collection of their stamps, dies, papers, and trimmings. They have high quality (not to mention, adorable) products; I find myself reaching for them often!

For this card, I thought it would be fun to do a little Distress Oxide ink blending in the background using colors to match the papers I was sent. I then colored the main image with Copic markers. Since the images were so simple, I just used Post-it removable labeling tape for my masks (if you are careful, you can re-use them; I just stuck mine on the back of the stamp set).

Making the Card

1. Cut blue/green cardstock 7x10 inches; fold in half to form a 5x7 inch card base.

2. In Memento Tuxedo Black ink, stamp boy and girl from Screen Time and cell phone from Love Letters on Post-it Tape (or Masking Paper). Use detail scissors to fussy cut around images (I cut just inside of the outer line). Stamp again, in arrangement shown, on X-Press It Blending card (or other alcohol marker friendly cardstock), leaving extra room for die cutting around it (a piece about 5x7 inches should allow you some wiggle room). I recommend using a Stamp Platform or Stamp Positioner. Hint: you may want to draw a pencil guide around the second largest die from Small Stitched Oval Stackables, just be sure to erase before inking background. Cover images with masks. Note: check that ink is dry on all masks before proceeding; I used a heat tool to set it.

3. Using a longer piece of Post-it Tape, place the top edge just above the boy's and girl's knees. Use a blending tool with Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Ink to blend background, starting from the middle on the Post-it Tape moving in circles up and out. Use the same piece of Post-it Tape on the clean side to cover the blended area starting at the line (hint: leave a small sliver showing so there won't be a white line when finished). Blend bottom with Evergreen Bough Distress Oxide Ink. Optional: to give the background some texture, lightly flick a little water over the image then dab with a paper towel. This is a little risky as the water may seep under the masks along with the ink - it happened to me in a couple places but I was able to hide it with my coloring.

4. Remove masks. Use Copic markers B91 and the 0 Blender to add a little shading around inside of cell phone screen. Stamp heart talk bubbles as shown in VersaFine Clair Glamorous Ink. Stamp small cell phones from Screen Time in boy's and girl's hands (I chose to make them right handed so they are holding their cell phones in their left hands).

5. Color images with Copic markers. The list of colors I used is at the bottom of Supplies. In order to make the boy's shirt a similar green to the background, I had to mix a few colors. Once finished, die cut using 2nd largest die from Small Stitched Oval Stackables.

6. Die cut blue/green striped patterned paper (Let's Polka in the Meadow Collection) using largest die from Large Stitched Oval Stackables. Cut small yellow polka dot paper 4x6 inches.

7. Run the die cut/colored image along with the two pieces of patterned paper cut in step 6 through the Xyron Creative Station with Permanent Adhesive (see photo above). Rub around edges before peeling away top film sheet. Carefully remove the striped oval and center it on the yellow polka dot rectangle, keeping the latter on the backing sheet. Next peel off colored image and stick to center of striped oval. Finally peel away the backing from the whole group but don't stick to card base yet; wrap a length of trimmings around this as shown and tie a bow in front and trim excess. Adhere to center of card base. Hint: you may want to use a liquid glue to keep bow in place as well as enforce the ends of the trimmings (I just put a little on my fingers and twist the ends with the grain).

8. Stamp "sending Love" (Love Letters) in VersaMark ink on a strip of blue/green cardstock. Use white embossing powder and a heat tool to emboss (I highly recommend first prepping the paper with a powder tool); trim if necessary and add tails with detail scissors. Adhere to card where shown using foam tape (see video below).

Sweet Greetings with Dreamerland Crafts and Doodlebug

Dreamerland Crafts with Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencils

Sending Love Flowers and Mailbox & Wall are two of the latest stamps from Dreamerland Crafts. The latter is from their Mix & Match collection - great for creating backgrounds and scenes. I colored this image with Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencils and blended it with Zest-It Pencil Blend on Canson Artist Series Drawing paper (250g/153.6lb cotton bright white) - this is the first time I'm using all three of these products. This combination isn't for the faint of heart. It was pretty challenging to get the color to blend and layer. I think this combination would work better on a larger piece, using a brush to apply the Zest-It Pencil Blend. On this small scale, I had to constantly dip the blending stump to keep the color moving to fill the paper texture.

Making the Card

1. Cut Blue/Green cardstock 7x10 inches; fold in half to form a 5x7 inch card base. Cut cloud paper (Spring Things) 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 inches and 1 1/4 x 4 3/4 inches. Adhere smaller one at top of card and larger at bottom as shown, leaving a gap for the paper ribbon. Cut a strip of light pink grid paper (Dot-Grid-Daisy-Stripe Rainbow Petite Prints) 1/2 x 5 inches. Adhere where shown. Die cut small bow (Fold Up Bows) in same paper, trim off tails, and assemble (hint: use the end of a paintbrush or other small round item to curve paper before assembly). Set aside bow.

2. Stamp Sending Love Flowers in Jet Black StazOn ink on masking paper. Cut around outside. Cut a piece of Canson Drawing Paper* to about 5x5 inches. I recommend using a Stamp Platform or stamp positioner for the next part. Stamp in the following order using Desert Sand Memento ink (I recommend stamping off first and doing a 2nd generation stamp of this - mine was too dark, making it very difficult to cover with pencil). Stamp Sending Love Flowers main image; mind placement - leaving room for sky and walls. Place mask over image then stamp walls to either side. Use Post-It Tape or other mask over walls (mostly to mask the top of the wall where the bush stamps may overlap). Stamp bushes so they are peeking above walls. Stamp bird where shown.

*Upon coloring (Step 3), I discovered that it is a bit difficult to work with this paper due to its light texture - coloring with pencils over it shows a lot of white, even with a highly sharpened tip and working in small circles. The Zest-It Pencil Blend I used to blend the pencil isn't wet enough on the blending stumps to fill the specks of white easily - some pressure and a lot of patience is needed. For beginners, I would recommend using a smoother cardstock, like 80lb Neenah Classic Crest Solar White.

Blending with Zest-it Pencil Blend

3. Color image with Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencils. Blend using Zest-It Pencil Blend and blending stumps as necessary. I left some areas unblended, for example, in the rocks, to give it a rougher look. Hint: color in layers for best results, for example, lightly color an area, use the blending solution and stumps, then add more color; repeat. My favorite pencil sharpener is the KUM Long Point to get a really fine point.

4. Die cut image using largest Nested Square Small Stitch Die. Cut blue/green cardstock 1/4 inch bigger than the die cut image (i.e. leaving 1/8 inch all the way around). Adhere to card where shown then use dimensional/mounting tape to adhere image.

5. Cut out "hello sunshine" (Spring Things) 2x2 inches. Cut blue/green cardstock 2 1/8 x 2 1/8 inches; adhere "hello sunshine" using dimensional/mounting tape. Adhere to card where shown. Adhere bow.

6. Finish card with crystal sequins where shown (the first photo shows their locations best).

XOXO Bandages Get Well Card

Rubbernecker Stamps Get Well Card

I stamped the background mainly with one stamp and popped one bandage and the bandage box forward by using color (Copic markers) and Nuvo Crystal Glaze for dimension. I also added Clear Wink of Stella to the colored bandage to make it look a little magical (if you are going to have a boo boo, why not use a sparkly bandage?). Simple matting gives this card a clean look so the focus will be on the colored stamped images.

Making the Card

1. Cut beige cardstock to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches; fold in half to form a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch card base. Cut black cardstock 4 x 5 1/4 inches. Cut alcohol marker friendly cardstock 3 7/8 x 5 1/8 inches (I used X-Press It Blending Card).

Copic Colored Get Well Card

2. Using Memento Tuxedo Black ink, stamp bandage box plus bandage (Get Well) above it where shown. These will be the ones you color. Also stamp bandage box in Jet Black StazOn ink on masking paper (I used Tim Holtz/Idea-ology Mask Sheets but I think they have been discontinued). Trim around mask, cutting down middle of black line as best as possible. Apply mask to stamped image (hint: if the mask is too sticky, before applying stick it to your shirt or pants to remove some of the stickiness - I forgot to do this and tore the paper slightly when removing mine).

3. Use Gray Flannel Memento ink to stamp the rest of the bandages as shown. Carefully remove the mask from the bandage box.

4. Color bandage above box with alcohol markers. I used Copic markers in colors E30, E31, E34. Color bandage box: C0, C1, C2, C4, C6.

5. Apply Clear Wink of Stella to bandage. (See photo - it actually shows up better in person.) Apply Nuvo Crystal Glaze over colored bandage and box (note: you could also use Glossy Accents). Set aside to dry.

6. Stamp "Sending Get Well Thoughts..." (Get Well) inside card with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

7. Once dry, adhere stamped panel to black cardstock; adhere to card base. Hint: I used liquid glue behind the Nuvo Crystal Glaze areas on both layers due to slight warping - you could also use very strong double sided tape.

Fall Branch Greeting Card

Rubbernecker Stamps Branch Blossoms with Faber-Castell Polychromos

Although the main Rubbernecker Stamp's image is part of their watercolor stamp collection, I decided to stamp it in dye ink (Memento) and enhance it with colored pencils (Faber-Castell Polychromos). I colored the flowers in Autumn colors for a Fall greeting card. The Fireworks! spray custom colored bow matches perfectly, as does the Lawn Fawn Perfectly Plaid Fall background paper.

Making the Card

1. Cut brown cardstock 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches; fold in half to form a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch card base. Cut orange cardstock 4 x 5 1/4 inches. Adhere to card base. Cut orange/yellow plaid (Lawn Fawn Perfectly Plaid Fall 6x6 Pad) 3 7/8 x 5 1/8 inches. Adhere to card base.

2. Cut a piece of Strathmore 500 Bristol Vellum to about 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches (a bit bigger than necessary for some wiggle room). You could probably use white cardstock but since I'm layering a lot of colors, I decided to use a really good paper for it.

Fall Branch Leaves with Polychromos Colored Pencils

3. Use a Stamp Platform or a stamp positioner to stamp the thick branch layer in Toffee Crunch Memento Ink near the center of the Bristol paper. Position the small branch layer and stamp with Rich Cocoa Memento Ink. Position the flower layer and stamp with Cantaloup Memento Ink.

4. Use colored pencils (Faber-Castell Polychromos) to color the image, layer yellow-oranges to orange-reds on flowers with the darkest at the centers. Add some browns to the branches. You may also add extra flowers or branches, even extend the existing branches if you like.

5. Cut a length of seam binding. Tie a small bow. Spray center with Dandelion Fireworks! Next spray with Cantaloup, overlapping the Dandelion. Finally spray the ends of the bow loops and tails with Tangelo. Set aside to dry.

6. Die cut image using third largest stitched rectangle die, centering the branch but leaving room for the sentiment in the top left corner. Use the Stamp Platform or a stamp positioner to stamp the sentiment in Rich Cocoa Memento Ink where shown. Adhere to card. Adhere bow where shown.
