December ECD Challenger: Glitter and Shimmer

Created for the Elizabeth Craft Designs DT

My husband and I recently returned from a 6 week vacation in New Zealand and Australia. A while back, we were invited to stay with a friend in Brisbane, Australia; we finally took him up on it! Since it is so far to travel, we decided to stay a while (and also see NZ!). This is the thank you card I made for him. This month's challenge is Glitter and Shimmer - the card was created using Silk Microfine Glitter and Shimmer Sheetz.

Making the Card

1. Cut a piece of red cardstock to 7.25" x 5.5", fold in half and die cut with Spiral Circle Pull Card as directed on the back of the package (you will not use the spiral). Cut a piece of red cardstock with the small label die from Lorna Label PopUp.

2. Die cut black Shimmer Sheetz using Clock and Gears: circle, clock hands, large gear. Cut 3 or 4 copies (depending on your cardstock and how thick you would like the stacks) of clock hands and large gear from black cardstock. Glue the cardstock pieces together in stacks to make thick versions; add the Shimmer Sheetz die cuts to the top.

3. Die cut 4 or 5 copies of the small gear from light blue cardstock; glue together. Die cut 3 or 4 copies of Thank You words from light blue cardstock; glue together.

4. Adhere one side of Double Sided Adhesive to white paper. Die cut the clock face and Thank You. Peel off the other side and coat with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter; polish with your finger by carefully rubbing the glitter. Color glittered Thank You in light blue (I used Copic B01); glue to top of light blue cardstock stacks. Color the clock face in red (I used Copic R29).

5. Glue the black Shimmer Sheetz circle to the front of the card as shown. Adhere the red clock face to the circle as shown. Punch a hole in the center of the circle. Use a brad to secure the clock hands as shown.

6. Cut pattern paper shown to fit on the front and inside of the card: cut rectangles first leaving a small amount around the edges. Adhere the inside piece and cut slots from the back using a craft knife. To create the circle cut out in the front piece, temporarily adhere it in place and trace the partial circle from the back. Fussy cut following the line, leaving the same amount you left for the edges.

7. Tie two pieces of twine around the bottom edge of the front paper in a double bow as shown. Adhere to front of card. Adhere a piece of the Film Strip Ribbon under the bow as shown. Fussy cut a camera icon, coat with Glossy Accents. Once dry, adhere to center of bow as shown.

8. Print sentiment on cardstock; die cut with circle die from Clock and Gears. Be sure to leave room for gear. Adhere as shown (this will cover the back of the brad).

9. Adhere the Thank You to the small red label (step 1) and use dimensional tape to adhere to card as shown. Adhere the black gear and blue gear where shown.

Faux Embossed Snowflake Card

Created for the Elizabeth Craft Designs DT

This is a fairly easy card to make yet looks elegant and clean. The subtle sparkle in the sentiment is prefect for a frosty snowflake theme.

Making the Card

1. Cut a piece of 8 1/2 x 11 inch blue cardstock in half so you have two pieces of 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch sheets. Fold one in half for a card base.

2. Cut a piece of white cardstock 4 x 5 1/4 inches.

3. From white cardstock, die cut using the two smallest dies from the Snowflakes set. Arrange them on the white cardstock (step 2). See photo. Glue them down, cutting off any that hang over the edges.

4. Cut five copies of Merry Christmas from white cardstock. Cut one copy from blue cardstock. Glue the white copies together, lining them up carefully, to form thick words.

5. Add some removable adhesive to a sheet of scrap paper. Stick the blue words to it. Tap embossing ink over the words. Coat with holographic embossing powder and heat. (If there are jagged edges, hold with tweezers and heat again.) Glue to top of white stacks.

6. Cut a strip of vellum 2 x 7 inches. Wrap it around the white snowflake background as shown. Adhere on the back side.

7. As shown: adhere the words , adhere white ribbon below it. Tie a bow and adhere.

Spiral Circle Pull Snowflake Christmas Card

Created for the Elizabeth Craft Designs DT.

I’ve been itching to try the Spiral Circle Pull Card from Karen Burniston and thought this would be the perfect card for it. I wanted the snow to come alive when the card was opened so I used clear recycled packaging for the spiral as the base for my snowflakes.

Making the Card

1. As per the instructions on the Spiral Circle Pull Card, cut a piece of blue cardstock 5 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches. Fold in half; die cut along fold placing die closer to the top (see image). Fold as instructed.

2. Adhere a sheet of Double Sided Adhesive to white cardstock.

3. Cut around the bottom scene from Christmas Ornaments Sceneries Peel-Off sticker sheet. Cut white cardstock (step 2) about the same size. Peel off backing; stick Christmas scene to it. Cover with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter  Polish with finger; brush off excess. Cut around, trimming off ornament top so you will be left with only a circle. Stick to card front circle as shown using dimensional adhesive.

4. Cut a couple tree lines from white cardstock (step 2) using Outdoor Edges  Also cut a strip 1/2 to 3/4 inch wide and about 5 inches long. Peel off backing on all. Cover with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter. Polish with finger; brush off excess. Adhere tree line to bottom of card as shown. Note: you may have to cut off a tree and/or trim snow to get two strips to line up in the right places.

5. Stamp sentiment on glittered strip (step 4) with black solvent ink. Trim down if necessary. Cut banner ends as shown. Adhere white ribbon around card edge as shown. Stick banner over ribbon using dimensional adhesive as shown.

6. Adhere a sheet of double sided adhesive to vellum. Cut 9 snowflakes (from All Seasons Tree set). Peel off backing on each. Cover with Cool Diamonds Silk Microfine Glitter. Polish with finger. Add a Glitter Dot to the center of each.

7. I die cut one of the snowflakes from an extra background sheet when making my Soft Gel Snowflakes Christmas card. If you don’t have an extra, just cut a Snowflake from blue cardstock, add gel or glossy accents, then sprinkle lightly with a very small amount of glitter. Let dry completely. Add Glitter Dots and glittered velum snowflake as shown. Adhere to top left corner of card with dimensional adhesive.

8. Cut spiral from clear plastic packaging using Metal Adaptor Plate (if the plastic is too thick, it may not cut through – it should be about the thickness of a transparency). Adhere ends with strong adhesive to inside of card as shown. Cover ends with snowflakes. Add other snowflakes to spiral as desired (see image).

9. Add Glitter Dots all over card as shown (including very small ones randomly over snow dots on the Christmas scene Peel-Off). Note: I made sure none from the inside would show when the card was closed so it would be more of a surprise.
