Till We Meet Again B&W Blended Coloring Thank You Card

Wow! It has been a while since I've posted! The end of last year was super busy - lots of travel, including a trip to Ecuador (and the Galapagos) for five and a half weeks. Preparing for the trip (planning, getting work done before leaving, etc.) took a long time. While in Ecuador, I caught two viruses back-to-back (colds - but they almost always hit me hard because I have asthma). Then on the way back home, just to add insult to injury, I got food poisoning at the Quito airport lounge, likely from some condiments left out all night. I was home for about a month, finally feeling better, then I caught Influenza A at a board game convention. Of course not long after that the pandemic hit and now I'm sequestered inside once again. Unfortunately, we had to move my husband to another part of the house - he's a doctor and likely to be exposed. Since I'm high risk, we had to quarantine him. Well, at least we have video chat! In case you are interested, I will put one of my more compelling travel photos at the end of the post. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!

Making the Card

1. Cut Neenah Desert Storm cardstock (I used 100lb) to 7x10 inches; fold in half to form a 5x7 inch card base.

2. On a piece of Neenah Desert Storm cardstock (I used 80lb), stamp Till We Meet Again (Dreamerland Crafts) in Tuxedo Black Memento ink (leave enough room on top, bottom, and sides for die cutting). Color image with black and white colored pencils (optional: use a blender pencil to blend). Use white for the highlights and black in the shadows, leaving the paper for middle values. Use less pressure on the pencils to shade in between.

3. Die cut (or cut) image to 2 3/4 x 4 3/4 inches (see photo for spacing). I used Waffle Flower A7 Layers Die set to cut all the rectangles for this card. Die cut black cardstock one or two sizes up (3x5 inches). Adhere image.



4. Die cut black cardstock 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches. Adhere to card base. Die cut hex B&W patterned paper 3 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches. I used My Mind's Eye 6x6 paper pad, Everyday Basics B&W, but any B&W paper with a small pattern will work, for example Doodlebug Design Petite Prints has some great basic patterns. Adhere to card base as shown. Adhere matted image where shown.

5. Die cut two copies of Thank You (Karen Burniston in Cahoots with Riley and Company) - one from black cardstock and one from glitter cardstock. I used Tim Holtz Deco Sheets but I believe the gold/silver version has been discontinued. Any matching glitter cardstock will work; if you can't find a light gold to match, try cream or white. Adhere the glitter Thank You to the black Thank you, offset so that it creates a slight black shadow below and to the left. Adhere to card where shown.

6. Die cut "my friend" from Neenah Desert Storm cardstock using Word Set 1 - Greetings (Karen Burniston in Cahoots with Riley and Company). Adhere where shown.

7. Adhere white enamel dots where shown.

The photo above was taken by me while scuba diving with my husband at Gordon Rocks in the Galapagos, Ecuador. There were well over a dozen hammerhead sharks; you can't see them all in this photo. I was about 10 feet away, using a Canon camera with a fisheye lens in an underwater housing. The fisheye lens makes everything look much further away so it can get 180 degrees in the photo. As I was shooting the hammerheads, I almost missed about 7 or 8 spotted eagle rays swimming by.

What is My Favorite Xyron Product and Why


What is my favorite Xyron product and why? This is the theme for the 2018 Xyron Design Team's last project. I would have to say my favorite is the 9" Creative Station, although it's really a toss up between the permanent adhesive and the double-sided lamination cartridges. I probably use permanent adhesive most often because it is an ideal tool for applying adhesive - it puts adhesive evenly all over whatever you run through it. Not only is it great for making stickers, it is perfect for background papers for cards and super useful for die cuts. I used to hate having to glue things like thin die cut letters/words because the glue would get all over the place. Now it is really easy - just run the cardstock through the the Creative Station with permanent adhesive, die cut, peel, and stick! You can even make your own dimensional tape. For a unique look, create your own designs on cardstock (such as a gradient effect with ink) before running it through and die cutting.

Cartridges are super simple to change, even mid-roll, which I do all the time! As an example of how I use lamination, check out my post on creating watercolor swatch sheets.

Making the Card

1. Cut Neenah Solar White cardstock about 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches. Use a Stamp Platform to stamp large dog (Crazy Dogs), small dog (Mini Cats & Dogs), and bone (Mini Cats & Dogs) in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Note: I didn't notice until I went to color the images that I had missed the large dog's foot in stamping - I just used a black Copic Multiliner SP to draw the edges then covered the paw with the bone to hide my mistake.

2. Color images with Copic markers (see Supplies for a list of colors I used).

3. Find the page in Puppy Love 6x6 pad with labels - the one with "love at FURst sight;" cut it away from the other labels. Cut a piece of blue cardstock about 1/8 inch bigger (so it will have 1/16" border around it). Use 1/4" Corner Chomper to round all corners on label and blue mat. On the label, go around edges from the back side with E55 Light Carmel.


4. From Puppy Love 6x6 pad find striped page, brown small hearts page, colorful hearts page, and border strips page ("adorable" words and paw prints). Trim colorful hearts to 4 1/2 x 4 3/4 inches. Trim stripes (vertical stripe orientation) to 1 1/2 x 4 3/4 inches. Cut "adorable" and paw strip from the page of strips but leave them connected; trim to 4 3/4 inches wide.

5. Use Stacked Baroque - largest to cut blue cardstock, next largest to cut brown small hearts (vertical orientation, see card photo). On the brown hearts die cut, go around edges from the back side with E55 Light Carmel.

6. Instead of dimensional tape, cut a piece of craft foam a little smaller than "love at FURst sight" label (I used a larger piece - I keep the extra around for other projects). Cut a piece of Neenah Solar White cardstock large enough to die cut "happy" and "anniversary" (Celebration Words: Script) - do not die cut yet.


7. Run everything through the Xyron 9" Creative Station with permanent adhesive.

8. Use Crazy Dogs large dog die and Mini Crazy Cats & Dogs small dog die and bone die to die cut images. Hint: after cutting them out, go around edges with 110 Special Black to go around edges from back side plus fill in any extra white edge areas showing (e.g. if the cutting was a little off). Die cut "happy" and "anniversary" from adhesive backed Neenah Solar White cardstock.

9.  Cut blue cardstock 7x10 inches; fold in half to form a 5x7 inch card base. On inside of card, adhere "happy" and "anniversary" where shown in photo below. Use a Teflon bone folder to rub over the tops of all the letters - this helps adhere the words and removes any ejector hole indents, without adding shine to the cardstock.


10. After rubbing your fingers around all cellophane on top of papers (hint: use a die pick to also go around edges), remove cellophane. To remove backing from large pieces, flip and peel backing away - this reduces the amount of bending. Punch a small hole at the bottom right corner of striped piece where heart brad will go - peel backing partially away and insert heart brad, spreading tines. Adhere heart piece at top then striped piece at bottom, making sure spacing is equal around top/bottom and sides. Adhere "adorable"/paw strip in middle. Adhere brown heart baroque piece to blue baroque piece; adhere to card where shown. Adhere tall dog (I wrapped the tail around the back and used the Teflon bone folder to stick it down well), short dog, and bone as shown. Adhere "love at FURst sight" label to top of craft foam where the cellophane was. Peel off backing and stick to blue mat. Adhere to card front where shown.

Holiday Wishes Copic Colored Winter Card


This sweet image by Dreamerland Crafts reminds me of clear winter nights, looking up at the stars. This could be a holiday card or a simple winter greeting card just by changing the sentiment. I haven't done much Copic coloring on kraft colored cardstock; this Neenah Desert Storm version is lighter than most kraft cardstocks. I think it turned out pretty well. I used 100 lb for the card base but 80 lb for the image. I buy the 250 packs since they are a much better deal than the smaller packs. You have to adjust the colors a bit, compared to working on white, specially the skin colors. Keep a scrap piece handy to test colors.

This card looks even better in person - the glitter really adds some sparkle magic. I was tempted to add glitter to the stars but thought they might look too much like snowflakes.

Making the Card

1. Cut Neenah Desert Storm 80 lb cardstock to about 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches (I had this piece on hand) - I like to have extra room around the image for die cutting. Using a Stamp Platform, stamp Holiday Wishes (Dreamerland Crafts) with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Use a .3 black Copic Multiliner SP to create hills around the subjects.

2. Color image with Copic markers (see Supply list for colors I used). Use white Gelly Roll pens to add stars to the sky.


3. Die cut image with largest Small Dotted Circle Stackables die. Die cut white glittered cardstock (Recollections) with largest Large Dotted Circle Stackables die. Adhere image to glittered circle using dimensional tape. Set aside until step 5.

4. Cut Neenah Desert Storm 100 lb cardstock to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches; fold in half to form a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch card base.

5. Cut shown background sheet from Checking it Twice (Teresa Collins) to 4 x 4 3/4 inches. This sheet has beautiful red glitter decorating the top (there's also a strip at the bottom of the 12x12 sheet). Adhere to card base. Using VersaMark ink and a Stamp Platform, stamp "Happy Holidays" sentiment (Dreamerland Crafts, Holiday Wishes) on piece of Neenah Desert Storm 80 lb cardstock. Emboss with Red Tinsel Embossing Powder. Trim to a strip; adhere where shown. Adhere image circle where shown.

Dreamweaver and Fireworks Greeting Card


Use Fireworks sprays by Imagine Crafts and a Dreamweaver stencil to create this beautiful shimmery background. The flowers were also sprayed with Fireworks. Unfortunately the shimmer does't show up in the photo but the card looks gorgeous in person.

Making the Card

1. Cut indicated cardstock to sizes below:

Lavender 7x10 inches
Periwinkle 4 3/4 x 6 3/4 inches
Stardream Quartz 5x7 (2 pieces if you want to press leftover ink from the stencil on one)

2. Fold lavender piece in half to form a 5x7 inch card base.

3. Die cut Scripty Hello once each from periwinkle and lavender cardstock, and three times from Stardream quartz cardstock.


4. Watch the video below to create the background papers, color the flowers, and stack the Scripty Hello die cuts. Note: I cut my background down to be even around the stencil outline so I added an extra strip of sprayed cardstock on the right side to make up the difference.


5. Optional: adhere small purple rhinestone to Scripty Hello as shown.

Wickedly Cute Witch Halloween Card

I'm so happy to be using these new stamps from the Wickedly Cute set! I love Halloween - and this set is perfect for a card or to be used as a decoration.

Making the Card

1. Stamp witch and "Stop by for a spell" sentiment from Wickedly Cute Stamp Set on alcohol marker friendly paper with alcohol marker friendly ink.

2. Color image with alcohol markers (the colors I used are listed below Supplies). Optional: add clear Wink of Stella to dress and hat for a shimmery look. Cut around image leaving small white line.

3. Cut magenta cardstock using main card die from Sizzix Framelits Card, Regal Stand-Ups. Cut star background patterned paper (Pebbles - Boo! 732984) using decorator pieces. Adhere to front of card.

4. From bright green cardstock, cut 4 copies of "toil," "&," "trouble" words from Sizzix Thinlits - Halloween Words: Script. Leave the last copy in the cardstock; put removable tape or Post-it tape behind it (if it fell out, just replace it). Using a blending tool, add Mowed Lawn Distress Ink starting at the bottom, blending upwards to the middle. Glue the layers of each word together to form a thick stack with the blended one on top.


5. Adhere witch using dimensional tape where shown. Tie a double bow with black/bright green twine. Adhere words, enamel dots and bow as shown. Cut brad prongs off purple rhinestone brad with wire cutter. Glue to front of card (I used glue dots).

6. Cut striped paper about 1 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches (5 1/2" is the width of the card). Put adhesive on back then wrap twine around 3 times. Adhere to base of card where shown (I used glue on the top and bottom edges to help hold it down since the twine tends to pop up the edges). With wire cutters, clip button loop off back of black cat button. Optional: the cat looked too gray so I colored it with black acrylic paint then painted in eyes with white acrylic mixed with Twisted Citron Distress Ink. Adhere where shown.

7. Cut "Stop by for a spell" into a strip; add tail (i.e. cut a V into the left side). Add Twisted Citron Distress Ink around edges with ink blending tool. Adhere with dimensional tape as shown.
