Always By Your Side Twist Circle Pop-up with Lyra Rembrandt

Dreamerland Crafts Always By Your Side Karen Burniston Twist Circle Pop-up

This darling stamp is entitled Always By Your Side (Dreamerland Crafts). I thought it would make the perfect image for my husband's anniversary card (our 27th!). We were friends before we started dating and are still besties, doing most things together - working out, martial arts, watching movies/TV, traveling, board gaming, riding Segways (purchased for our anniversary a couple years ago), and more! If only he liked crafting as much as I do! Oh well, no body's perfect.

I fussy cut the image to be featured inside the card on a twist circle pop-up (using Karen Burniston's new dies!). I kept the card front rather plain, with the real surprise inside. I used Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor colored pencils to color the image. These are oil based pencils, which go on pretty smoothly and blend well. I have the full set of 72. Unfortunately the colors are not best suited to portrait work (or people images) - the flesh colors are really lacking. There is basically only one for fair skin and maybe one for very dark skin - there aren't any suitable middle browns or tans. I much prefer Faber-Castell Polychromos (set of 120); they are even smoother and also oil based. I think the two sets would be great to use together though - extending the color range of both sets.

Making the Card

1. Cut light pink cardstock 4 1/4 x 11 inches; fold in half to form a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch card base.

2. Using the largest circle die from Snowman Twist Circle pop-up set, cut both a scrap piece of white cardstock and the light green heart patterned paper (Hugs and Kisses Paper Pad). Optional, go around the edge of the white cardstock with a matching light green color (even lighter than the paper) - I used a Copic marker for this. Adhere the white circle to the back of the patterned circle; this extra layer will give the patterned paper more support.

3. Cut red cardstock 3 3/4 x 10 1/2 inches; fold in half. This is the piece that you will use for the inside of the card on which the twist circle base will be cut. Also use red cardstock for the arm. Watch the following video to assemble the twist circle pop-up part of the card but leave the light green heart patterned circle off for now.

4. Cut two pieces of paper with lips 3 x 4 inches: the paper is 6 inches so cut off 4 inches first then cut it in half. Adhere one to each side of the card inside as shown. Cut another piece from the scrap 2 x 3-3/4 inches. Adhere to front of card where shown.

5. Using Memento Tuxedo Black ink, stamp Always By Your Side (Dreamerland Crafts) on colored pencil friendly white cardstock (I used Strathmore 500 Series Bristol Plate Surface). I recommend a fairly smooth cardstock for this. Color image with colored pencils; I used Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor 72 Set. Fussy cut around image; use a craft knife to cut out inside areas. From the back side of the image, use a black marker, such as a Copic Multiliner with brush tip or Memento Tuxedo Black marker, to go around all the edges - this will hide the white edges and give it a more polished look. Adhere image to light green heart patterned circle as shown, using dimensional tape. Hint: to make edges of white dimensional tape less noticeable, color the edges with a black alcohol marker, such as a Sharpie or Copic, before adhering. Adhere to twist circle arm as directed in the video.

6. Using stitched die from Snowman Twist Circle pop-up set, die cut red cardstock. Using dotted border die, cut pink paper and light green gingham (Hugs and Kisses Paper Pad). Using the smaller circle, die cut pink gingham (Hugs and Kisses Paper Pad). Adhere the light green gingham inside piece of the dotted border (not the border itself) to the center of the red circle. Adhere pink dotted border around it (you may have to gently nudge the border into place in some areas). Adhere pink inside piece of dotted border to inside of card where shown. Adhere light green gingham dotted border around it. Adhere pink gingham circle in center.

7. Die cut "Thinking of you" and "my friend" from red cardstock using Word Set 1 - Greetings (by Karen Burniston). Adhere in circles as shown. Cut a strip of light green hearted paper about 5/8 inches (3 rows of hearts) by 5 1/2 inches. Adhere to card front as shown. Use dimensional tape to adhere "Thinking of you" circle to front where shown.

8. Embellish with various sizes of crystal sequins as shown (7 on card front, 3 inside around sentiment).

YNS Sweet Birthday Card Featuring Gumdrops (Challenge)

This post is part of the Your Next Stamp (YNS) Gumdrop Challenge. The challenge is to use YNS Gumdrops on a project. As a special bonus to you, if you visit the Your Next Stamp blog and leave a comment, you will have a chance to win a YNS stamp set of your choice! Comments must be left by May 12, 2017; the winner will be announced on May 14, 2017.

I chose to use the Total Sweetness stamp set. I colored it with Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils on Neenah Desert Storm cardstock. It didn't have quite enough "pop" to go with the brightly colored Gumdrops so I added extra bling with Stickles and a Wink of Stella glitter pen. It's difficult to see all the glitter and shine in the photos but it looks very pretty in person. The result is delicious!

Making the Card

1. Cut Desert storm cardstock 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches; fold in half to form a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch card base. Cut another piece about 4 x 4 inches. Note: you may trim to the dimensions in step 2 if you have a stamp positioned - I left extra space in case the stamping was off, plus it is easier to color on a larger piece. Stamp the little girl sitting on the banana split sundae in black ink.

2. Color image with your favorite colored pencils. I used Faber-Castell Polychromos. Hint: use a light touch, color in circles, and layer the color. If you press too hard, you will get shiny spots and the tooth of the paper will be destroyed (i.e. it won't take any more color). Trim to 3 x 3 1/4 inches, centering image.

3. Add Wink of Stella to the ice cream, the girl's shirt, and her shoes. Add Glossy Accents to the cherries. Mix Turquoise and Star Dust Stickles then paint on main part of sundae bowl as shown. Add a dot of Thistle Stickles to the center of the daisy in the girl's hair. Set aside to dry.

4. Stamp sentiment on Desert Storm. Punch with 1 1/4 inch circle. Punch pink cardstock with 1 1/2 inch scalloped circle. Add Thistle Stickles all around the edges, be sure to cover the parts that will show. Set aside to dry.

5. Cut pink cardstock to 4 x 5 1/4 inches. Cut smiling tea cup paper (YNS Hugs and Kisses) to 3 7/8 x 5 1/8 inches; adhere to pink cardstock. Adhere these to card base.

6. Cut pink cardstock to 3 1/8 x 3 3/8 inches. Adhere image to this piece then adhere to card as shown. Use dimensional tape to adhere sentiment to scalloped circle with Stickles. Add to card with dimensional tape where shown.

7. Add Gumdrops as shown.

Nailed It! Your Next Stamp Masculine Birthday Card in Prismacolor

Hi y'all! This post is part of the Your Next Stamp (YNS) new release blog hop. The blog hop starts May 6, 2017, at 10 pm EST and will end on May 9, 2017, at midnight EST. Leave a comment on each blog along the way for your chance to win a $25 YNS gift certificate; the more blogs you leave comments on, the better your chances of winning (although you do not need to leave comments on all to be eligible). The winner's name will be posted on the YNS blog on May 11, 2017. See bottom of post for all participating blogs.

The new releases are now available at the YNS store (check the New Products tab for new releases). And here's a coupon code for 20% off (good until May 10, 2017, at midnight).

Included in the new release is this adorable Nailed It set of stamps and complimentary dies. I couldn't wait to color this cute (yet still masculine) image. I was tempted to mask his hand to put a hammer or other tool in it but I kind of liked the way he looks like he's doing a fist pump (appropriate for a birthday!) so I just used the tools in the background. Next time I might do some masking though.

If you haven't already, be sure to check out my preview post using the Good Vibes stamp set (also in this release). The toucan is super fun to color and probably my favorite character in this release. Plus you have to love the punny sentiments that perfectly accompany each set.

Making the Card

1. Cut green cardstock 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches; fold in half to form a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch card base. Cut one cream cardstock and one brown gingham paper (Doodlebug Design) to 4 x 5 1/4 inches.

2. On the brown gingham, use Vintage Photo Distress Oxide ink to stamp tools in various places all over the paper.

3. On the cream cardstock, spray Fireworks sprays through Speckles Layering Stencil such that Cottage Ivy is heavier on one side and Desert Storm is heavier on the other; they should overlap. Once dry, cut a piece 1 3/4 inches (by 5 1/4) and mount it on the brown gingham as shown, then cut a strip 5/8 inches wide and stamp the sentiment as shown (I put most of the green towards the bottom). Mount on green cardstock that is 3/4 inches wide and 5 1/4 inches long.

4. Stamp the tool man on white cardstock (before coloring, you may want to test your cardstock to be sure the colors will blend the way you like). Coloring the image: I used Prismacolor colored pencils with Sansodor (this is a solvent; you can also use mineral spirits, Gamsol, or other similar product). WARNING: even though many of these products are made to have little to no smell, the fumes still may harm you. Read the package warnings before use. Use in a well ventilated room. I keep my solvent in a small glass jar with a screw lid that I leave ajar while coloring, I only move the lid aside to dip a stump into the solvent as necessary. Use a light hand, color in small circles until the area is filled, then use a stump dipped in solvent to blend. Layer more color as necessary. Use gray over darker shaded areas to get a more true color. Once done use the coordinating die to cut out the image.

4. Cut two pieces of white seam binding about 5 inches long. Use the Cottage Ivy Fireworks spray to die one of the pieces and let dry. Adhere these to the brown gingham paper where shown, wrapping ends around each side and securing on back. Adhere this to the card base.

5. Adhere the tool man and sentiment using dimensional tape. Adhere gears as shown using Mini Glue Dots (I folded them so that they would fit behind the gears).

Your Next Stamp Good Vibes Toucan Thank You Card

I'm one of the May guest designers for Your Next Stamp! Today is preview day. Please visit the Your Next Stamp blog for a full list of participating blogs.

For this card, I used the brand new Good Vibes set, featuring an adorable toucan (along with several sentiments). Toucans are colorful birds. I chose to color this one with Copic alcohol markers to really show off those colors. I modeled mine after the Keel-Billed Toucan (or Rainbow Billed Toucan) whose habitat includes south-eastern Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala. I used Distress Oxide Inks (with a little help from the old Distress Inks) for a fun background.

Affiliates links may be included in this post. See Notice at bottom of blog.

Making the Card

1. Cut bright green cardstock 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches. Fold in half to form a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch card base. Cut bright blue cardstock 4 x 5 1/4 inches. Adhere to card base.

2. Stamp toucan on Copic friendly cardstock (I used X-Press It Blending Card). Color image. Hint: do a Google search for "toucan" and click the images tab; find an image you like to use as a model. See Supplies below for the list of markers I used. Fussy cut around image (you may want to use detail scissors for the small areas).

3. Cut white cardstock 3 7/8 x 5 1/8. Use a blending tool with Broken China Distress Oxide Ink starting in the bottom right corner and moving up towards the upper left as shown. Blend each color in order with the one before it (you may have to go back and forth): Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide, Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide, Mustard Seed Distress, and Squeezed Lemonade Distress. Keep in mind where you would like the toucan. Once you are satisfied with the blending, flick some water over the area, wait a few seconds then dab with a clean paper towel. Repeat as necessary to get a dappled effect. Adhere to card base as shown.

4. Stamp sentiment on yellow cardstock. Cut in a strip and add tails to one side as shown. Adhere to a piece of bright green cardstock that's slightly larger, cut around as necessary (I usually line it up in one corner then trim around). Adhere using dimensional tape. Adhere toucan using dimensional tape.

5. Add Gumdrops as shown. Optional: add a dot of white with a gel pen to the toucan's eye as a highlight.
