Wickedly Cute Witch Halloween Card

Made by Mary Dimercurio Prasad for the Oak Tree Stamps Design Team

I'm so happy to be using these new stamps from the Wickedly Cute set! I love Halloween - and this set is perfect for a card or to be used as a decoration.

Making the Card

1. Stamp witch and "Stop by for a spell" sentiment from Wickedly Cute Stamp Set on alcohol marker friendly paper with alcohol marker friendly ink.

2. Color image with alcohol markers (the colors I used are listed below Supplies). Optional: add clear Wink of Stella to dress and hat for a shimmery look. Cut around image leaving small white line.

3. Cut magenta cardstock using main card die from Sizzix Framelits Card, Regal Stand-Ups. Cut star background patterned paper (Pebbles - Boo! 732984) using decorator pieces. Adhere to front of card.

4. From bright green cardstock, cut 4 copies of "toil," "&," "trouble" words from Sizzix Thinlits - Halloween Words: Script. Leave the last copy in the cardstock; put removable tape or Post-it tape behind it (if it fell out, just replace it). Using a blending tool, add Mowed Lawn Distress Ink starting at the bottom, blending upwards to the middle. Glue the layers of each word together to form a thick stack with the blended one on top.

5. Adhere witch using dimensional tape where shown. Tie a double bow with black/bright green twine. Adhere words, enamel dots and bow as shown. Cut brad prongs off purple rhinestone brad with wire cutter. Glue to front of card (I used glue dots).

6. Cut striped paper about 1 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches (5 1/2" is the width of the card). Put adhesive on back then wrap twine around 3 times. Adhere to base of card where shown (I used glue on the top and bottom edges to help hold it down since the twine tends to pop up the edges). With wire cutters, clip button loop off back of black cat button. Optional: the cat looked too gray so I colored it with black acrylic paint then painted in eyes with white acrylic mixed with Twisted Citron Distress Ink. Adhere where shown.

7. Cut "Stop by for a spell" into a strip; add tail (i.e. cut a V into the left side). Add Twisted Citron Distress Ink around edges with ink blending tool. Adhere with dimensional tape as shown.

Halloween Spooky Scene Pop-up Bench Card

Created for the ECD Susan Tierney-Cockburn Design Team

Halloween is coming! Time for spooky scenes... and Susan's new CountryScapes are perfect for setting the stage (or creating the card). I combined this with Karen Burniston's Garden Bench decorated as an old weather-beaten seat under the eerie moon and creepy tree. What else could be lurking nearby?? Bwahaha...

Making the Card

Note: I used cream and orange papers from the Authentique Enchanted 6x6 Paper Pad. You could substitute cream and orange cardstock instead.

1. Cut two pieces black cardstock to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches (basically, one 8 1/2 x 11 sheet cut in half). Fold each in half then die cut one with Garden Bench main die as directed on packaging.

2. Protect card around bench with Post-it or other removable tape/paper. Paint "wood" areas with a fairly thick coat of Picket Fence Distress Crackle Paint. Add a very little on the iron works area to give it an aged look (I used my finger). The paint may pick up some black color from the paper but since the bench is in shadow, it works. Once completely dry, sponge over with Black Soot Distress Ink. Optional: wipe surface with slightly damp paper towel to remove a little surface ink while leaving ink in cracks.

3. Adhere other piece of folded black cardstock to back, lining up edges (mainly to cover the holes and strengthen the card). When applying adhesive, be sure to avoid the bench area. Add adhesive to one side, line up with fold on non-sticky side (it's easier to slide around this way), stick adhesive sides together, then adhere the other side. Trim if necessary.

4. For front of card:
  • From cream paper punch spider web (I used Spider Web Large Double Punch by Martha Stewart/EK Success). Add a little Rusty Hinge Distress Ink as desired.
  • Cut a strip of cream paper 7/8 x 3 1/2 inches; stamp Spooky (Technique Tuesday Halloween Circles set) about 3/4" from left. Add Rusty Hinge as desired. Add Black Soot Distress Ink to edges of strip.
  • Stamp pumpkin (same set) on cream paper, leaving a little space around it for cutting it out. Color pumpkin with Rusty Hinge and Peeled Paint Distress ink (I used a foam pad); cut out pumpkin with 1 1/2 inch circle punch or die.
  •  Cut striped decorative paper about 4 x 5 1/4 depending on the exact size of your card (i.e. leave 1/16 inch border around it on card front so it will be 1/8 inch smaller than each card front dimension); adhere to front of card.
  • Cut black cardstock mats 2 1/4 x 2 3/4 inches and 1 7/8 x 4 7/8 inches. Cut spiderweb paper 2 1/8 x 2 5/8 inches; cut orange/black decorative paper 1 3/4 x 4 3/4 inches. Adhere to black cardstock mats then to card front as shown.
  • Adhere Spooky strip as shown; adhere pumpkin with dimensional tape. Note: I added black glitter nail polish with holographic dots to my orange enamel dots to give them a grunge look. I found the nail polish at a dollar store - Kleancolor 188 Black Out. Adhere spider, web, and enamel dots where shown.

5. Die cut a circle (Ring Accordion or other circle die) from orange paper. Use Pan Pastels to color Moon shadows and highlights. Adhere at top right corner inside card (see photo). Trim from back, flush with card. Die cut a scrap of cardstock with clouds die to use as a template. Chalk under with light yellow or white Pan Pastel all across the sky, including over moon in a couple spots. Slightly smudge with finger.

6. From black cardstock, cut pumpkins, cat, raven, bats (2 sets), tree, branches, and grass (see Supplies for full links). Glue one set of bats over moon as shown. Add eyes to cat with yellow Milky Gel Pen (or white gel pen then add yellow or green ink on top, e.g. Twisted Citron Distress Ink). Chalk highlights where moonlight would touch each (light yellow or white Pan Pastel); I did this with a stump and blended lightly with my finger. I left the grass alone. Trace pumpkins on yellow/orange cardstock. Cut inside the lines. Glue behind pumpkins. Chalk a little orange (around facial features) on pumpkins to make them look like they are glowing. Chalk highlights on raven as shown. Optional: add a small eye with black Enamel Accents and a dot of highlight with white gel pen. Add branches to tree in a slightly misshapen way (it's a spooky tree!); chalk edges towards moon side (you may need to trim some branches to fit it inside card). For added dimension, rub behind elements with large ball stylus.

7. Adhere all elements where shown - using dimensional tape behind pumpkins and raven.

8. Die cut 2nd largest decorator tag from cream paper. Sponge Rusty Hinge Distress Ink through Shatter (Tim Holtz) stencil in top right corner of tag for a subtle spider web background. Randomly edge/sponge with Black Soot and Rusty Hinge for an aged look. Stamp Happy Halloween (Technique Tuesday Halloween Circles set) and spider (Studio G) in black ink as shown. Optional: add black Enamel Accents to body of spider. Glue bats as pictured. Cut orange paper 1 7/8 inches wide (the width is 6" from paper pad). Cut spiderweb paper 1 5/8 inches wide. Adhere spiderweb decorative paper centered in orange. Cut to width of card. Wrap Halloween twine around three times, securing in back. Adhere with dimensional tape to bottom of card. Tie a bow with twine. Add tag (with dimensional tape) and bow as shown.

Moody Ballerina Dancing Step-Ups Card

Created for the Oak Tree Stamps Design Team

Here's another card using the adorable Moody Ballerina stamp set by Oak Tree Stamps. This adorable image was watercolored in pink then given an added shimmer to her tutu thanks to a clear Wink of Stella brush pen. Right now Oak Tree Stamps is having a special - 5 stamp sets for $35 plus free shipping!

Making the Card

1. Using the main Sizzix Step-Ups card die, cut the card base from pink cardstock and fold as instructed. Cut striped patterned paper using the large decorator die for the center of the card. Cut the purple patterned paper with the side (starred) decorator pieces. Adhere decorator pieces where shown.

2. Stamp "Dance" and "Like no One's Watching" from Oak Tree Stamps: Moody Ballerina set on polkadot patterned paper as shown. Cut out. Measure and cut a strip of pink paper 1/8 inch larger in each dimension to frame the sentiment. Adhere together as shown.

3. Stamp three dancing ballerinas from Oak Tree Stamps: Moody Ballerina in waterproof black ink on watercolor paper. Watercolor images. Add clear Wink of Stella to each tutu. Carefully cut around each with detail scissors. I used a craft knife to cut out the smallest areas. From the back side, go around edges with a black marker (I used a black Copic Multiliner with brush nib tip). This hide the white edges and gives them a finished look.

4. Cut pink cardstock using Spellbinders Lacy Ovals (check size against ballerina). Cut oval from polkadot patterned paper; adhere to lacy oval. Adhere this to main card as shown. Adhere sentiment where shown using dimensional tape. Adhere ballerinas where shown using dimensional tape.

5. Die cut one frame edge from purple cardstock; add clear Wink of Stella. Adhere to bottom of card where shown. Cut two lengths of pink/white twine. Tie in a single bow. Adhere button and twine as shown.

Fall/Thanksgiving Decorative Card

Made for the ECD Susan Tierney Cockburn Design Team

Susan's new leaf dies make really beautiful fall leaves. I wanted to make a wreath of all the different fall colors; Karen Burniston's Ring Accordion was the perfect base for such a card. I also wanted to use Susan's smaller leaves from a previous release to make matching shaker elements for the other side. The card makes a perfect decoration for fall or Thanksgiving.

For the words, I wanted to add foil in red and green. I have used Therm-O-Web's Deco Foil before but I recently bought some Heidi Swapp Minc foil on sale so I thought I would give it a try. Unfortunately this did not work nearly as well as the Deco Foil - at least not with my laminating machine. I even put them through 5 or more times. There were gaps in the coverage. I may try ironing it with a craft iron next time.

Making the Card

1. In order to do foiling (optional), you will need to print the words using a laser printer (toner based printer). I printed these on yellow/gold cardstock. Create a document with the words "Thankful" and "Grateful" using a fancy font, making sure they are far enough apart to die cut around each (I put one on each side of an 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet). Print and foil as instructed. I made "Grateful" with red foil and "Thankful" with green foil. For more instructions and another card example of foiling, see my Rainbow Foiled Greetings Birthday Card post.

2. Using the Ring Accordion die set, cut two green ring accordion frames. Cut two more, one from yellow/gold cardstock and one from yellow/orange - you will only use the centers of these so cut the tabs off flush to the center circle. Using the circle die, cut the center out of the yellow/orange circle to create a circle frame. Again using the circle die, cut the foiled words from the yellow/gold cardstock. Cut eight border pieces from the yellow/gold cardstock. Train the folds on both green frames.

3. Using Garden Patch -7/8-inch & Mini Leaves, choose the small leaves that look the most "fall-like." I also used the leaf dies from Garden Patch - 1 1/2-inch & Mini Roses (even though they are for flowers, they look enough like fall leaves). Cut a variety of these leaves from Shimmer Sheetz (see Supplies list for colors and links). These will be part of the shaker elements.

4. Using the smaller Woodland Leaves dies, cut several sets from each cardstock color: light green, green, yellow/gold, yellow/orange, and red. Chalk them in fall colors (I used the fall leaf colors from all three Pan Pastel sets; see Supplies for links). Draw vein lines on each leaf with green or red colored pencil. Shape leaves by rubbing with large stylus on backs and drawing a line down the middle with the leaf tool for the main vein. Curl edges of some using edge of a die pick or handle of a small paint brush.

5. To create the shaker, insert "Thankful" circle inside a heavy duty presentation sheet protector (or other pocket material) and put the circle die on top to use as a guide. You may want to adhere a couple of the Shimmer Sheetz leaves over top of the word (I forgot to do this first so ended up using tweezers; I also went too far around, making it difficult to add the shaker elements). Use the Fuse tool to go around outside of the circle die, maybe half way around or so. Add seed beads, Shimmer Sheetz leaves, and chunky glitter as desired (in front of cardstock - anything behind will not show). Finish sealing the pocket. Cut around outside of seal, close but leaving a small space around the seal.

6. Adhere four border pieces around one of the green frames then the yellow/gold circle to the center (tabs to the right - remembering the flat side is the bottom). Cut off the tabs that are sticking out from the frame (one on the center and one on the frame outside). Adhere shaker using double sided adhesive to the center, then the yellow/orange frame. Adhere two leaves as shown.

7. On the other frame, laying flat with the tab to the left (flat part bottom), glue down the last four frame pieces. Flip the frame. Adhere leaves to "Grateful" circle as shown. Stick this to the center of the frame using dimensional tape. Now for the tricky part. You will glue leaves around the frame, noting that the ones at the bottom that over-hang will have to be folded up to allow the card to stand (i.e. don't leave much over-hanging) and leaving the tab area relative clear so it may fold (any leaves that hit the other frame will also need to be folded). Keep in mind the types of leaves and colors while gluing them to the frame so that they make a pleasing pattern (I tried to keep from placing two alike type or color leaves together). It helps if you lay them out first before gluing.

8. Using strong adhesive, stick tabs as directed to assemble the card. Finish by adhering the final leaves to the front of the card. I didn't mind that the leaves on the reverse side showed from the front of the card since it is intended to be used as a display piece.
