My Card

My first thought was to make a rain/umbrella themed card using the new Rainy Day dies and Ruby Rock-it rain drop paper and Droplets (I did end up using a couple droplets - love them!), then I saw the cute 3D owls, bird, and feather background paper! I ended up with a cheerful Hello greeting card instead. I hope you like it!

Making the Card

1. Cut white cardstock to 4 1/4 x 11 inches; fold in half to create a card base. Cut black cardstock 4 x 5 1/4 inches. Adhere black cardstock to white card base. Cut Feather Background 3 3/4 x 5 inches; adhere to black cardstock.

2. Adhere one side of Double Sided Adhesive to white cardstock. From Rainy Day Peel Offs, select the sun and two grass sections; adhere to other side of Double Sided Adhesive. Rough cut around each. Coat with Cool Diamonds Silk Microfine Glitter; polish each with your finger by rubbing it across the adhesive. Fussy cut around each then use a black marker to go around the edges.

3. Cut six copies of Hello Die from black cardstock. Glue each layer on top of the other to create a thick stack. Add Glossy Accents to top layer. Set aside to dry. Cut a rectangle from white cardstock 3/4 x 2 3/8 inches. Adhere Hello and blue Droplets as shown.

4. Adhere Owls to top right of card as shown.

5. Cut grass from white cardstock using Outdoor Edges. Adhere along bottom of card lining up with bottom edge of Feather Paper.

6. Using dimensional tape, adhere glittered grass, glittered sun, Hello label, and Bird as shown.

Katie Label Accordion Halloween Card Featuring Tilda - ECD September Challenge

This month's challenge is Fall and Halloween. I had colored this image of Tilda a while ago. She fit perfectly in the Katie Label shape for this card. The candy corn paper went really well with the beautiful ECD Peel-Off stickers. The surprise on this card is that the pumpkin Peel-Off is removable and may be placed elsewhere, e.g. on a votive holder. Guess what's behind it! (See further down the post.)

Making the Card

1. Cut three copies of the Katie Label Accordion main die from purple cardstock (flap to right). Also cut one from the green patterned paper for the front of the card (flip the paper so you are cutting from the back side of the paper), as well as one from the "I Want Candy" patterned paper (do not flip paper; cut from patterned side). Trim both sheets of patterned paper 1/8 inch all around. Adhere the green patterned paper to the back of one of the purple sheets, lining it up carefully. Temporarily adhere the "I Want Candy" patterned paper to the other side.

2. Note: except when decorating the front of the card, keep the flaps to the right. Cut one copy of the Katie Label Accordion from clear plastic packaging. With scissors, rough cut a small amount all around the label part following the contour; discard the rest. See last image below: stick spider and web Peel-Off as shown (cut small spider from web first - you will use it in step 7).

3. Using the largest label die, cut a window centered on the accordion page with the patterned paper. Remove the temporarily adhered paper then sandwich and glue the clear plastic packaging under it before adhering it permanently.

4. Adhere the "I Want Candy" label to the front of one of the blank purple accordion pages as shown. This will become the last page. Cut off flap; it will not be used (see Katie Label Accordion instructions).

5. Stamp Tilda with Pumpkin onto watercolor paper using a waterproof black ink. Watercolor with Distress Inks as desired. Note: I used a waterproof black pen to draw the dirt near her feet before painting. Using the Katie Label main die, cut out image. Flip the die and cut again - making sure to line up the already cut parts. Use removable tape to keep it in place while cutting. This cleanly removes the page tabs.

6. Using light colored Distress Inks, stamp webs, eyes, and "eek" as desired around edges of Tilda. Using ink blending tool, add Mowed Lawn Distress Ink along edges as shown. Add Clear Wink of Stella to pumpkin. Adhere to last blank Katie Label Accordion page. This will become the middle page.

7. Cut decorative corner elements from purple cardstock and green patterned paper. Adhere green ones opposite each other on the Tilda page (top right, bottom left). Add the small spider hanging from the top right green corner. Adhere one of the purple corners to the top left of the green patterned paper page (this will become the front of the card). The other corner will not be used.

8. Cut 2 large, 4 medium, and 2 small five petaled flowers (Bunch of Flowers 1) from black cardstock. Cut the 2 medium and 2 small of the Triple Leaf from light green cardstock. Using the foam blending tool, add Mowed Lawn to the leaves, followed by Black Soot as shown (don't cover the centers completely, let the black fade to the center). Cover flowers and leaves with Wink of Stella. Shape as desired. Cover with Distress Crackle Paint. Let dry. Adhere flower layers together as shown (large with medium, medium with small), offsetting each layer. Add a gem to center of each.

9. Adhere one medium triple leaf and one large flower to top right of card front as shown. Adhere another on the opposite side in mirror position. Adhere one small triple leaf and one medium flower to the bottom right corner of Tilda page. Adhere last leaf and flower to the top right of the candy corn label page.

10. Create a repositionable sticker (see my earlier blog post on how to make one) with the pumpkin Peel-Off. Stick to the front of the window on the candy corn patterned paper side (you will actually see this from the front when it is closed).

11. Stick one side of double sided adhesive to white card stock. Peel the backing paper from the other side and stick the three candy corn Peel-Offs to it (not too close together - you will need to cut around them). Add Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter over the top and polish with your finger. Color with alcohol markers to match the candy corn on the patterned paper. Cut around each, then run a black marker along the edges to hide any white. Use dimensional tape to stick one on the bottom right of the card front and the other two to the top half of the "I Want Candy" label as shown.

12. Cut ovals from black and white cardstock. Stamp Happy Halloween on white one; ink edges with Mowed Lawn Distress Ink using ink blending tool. Adhere black oval below candy corn as shown. Use dimensional tape to adhere white stamped oval, offsetting it upwards a little from the black.

13. Using a strong adhesive, stick the accordion pages together as shown in the instructions. Tie twine around last page as shown. Optional: add spider web washi tape around left side of middle page (covering the seam down the back and continuing around).

14. Add dimensional tape behind large spider Halloween Peel-Off; fill in the holes with black marker. Add black gems to body. Stick to bottom left of the card front.

Spooky Witch Card

I love Halloween! It's such a fun theme for making cards too. Here's my first of the year. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!

Making the Card

1. Adhere white paper to the back of a Double Sided Adhesive sheet, enough to cover the Peel-Off sticker of the witch. Adhere the witch to the other sticky side. Coat with Cool Diamond Microfine Glitter and polish with your finger. Color with alcohol markers (Copics used here). To tone down the silver to better match the background, plus give texture to the cat, I used a warm toned black alcohol marker (careful not to get any in your colored areas).

2. If you don't have a pre-made card base, cut a sheet of black cardstock to 6 1/2 x 10 inches; fold in half. Cut a piece of the matching purple patterned cardstock from the 12x12 Midnight Magic pack (optional, cut a piece of purple cardstock) to 6 1/8 x 4 3/4. Apply adhesive, line it up with the top of the card, center, and stick down.

3. Cut the shown piece of patterned cardstock (with spider, skull, and raven) to 5 7/8 x 4 5/8 inches. Adhere spider web washi tape as shown, wrapping the ends around the back. Cut a thin piece of Shimmer Sheetz to 5 7/8 inches. Adhere below the washi tape. Apply adhesive to the back, line up with the top of the card, center, and stick.

4. Using the main die from the Katie Label Accordion set, cut the purple cardstock. Cut the middle "label" piece from the frame; turn it over, line it up, secure it with removable tape and cut again. This takes off the extra bits from the accordion. Adhere the glittered witch to the center using dimensional tape.

5. Using the shown "label" die from the Katie Label Pivot Card set, cut one from the black cardstock and one from the purple cardstock. Stamp and silver emboss the "Spooky" sentiment near the bottom right of the purple label as shown. (Optional) Outline with black marker to make it stand out more. Add the spider brad embellishment as shown.

6. Cut the three sizes of five petaled flowers (728 Bunch of Flowers 1) from black cardstock. Cut the mid-sized triple leaf from light green cardstock. Using the foam blending tool, add Mowed Lawn to the leaves, followed by Black Soot as shown (don't cover the centers completely, let the black fade to the center). Cover flowers and leaves with Wink of Stella. Shape as desired. Cover with Distress Crackle Paint. Let dry. Adhere flower layers together as shown, offsetting each layer. Add a gem to the center.

7. Adhere the witch as shown using dimensional tape. Adhere black label where shown. Adhere the "spooky" label using dimensional tape just offset from the black label.

8. Adhere the leaves and flower as shown. Add gem embellishments as shown.

Nautical Hello Card

The new Peel-Offs include nautical themed designs. I decided to step a little outside my box and create something different, at least for me anyway since it’s not a theme I frequent.

Making the Card

1. From the Nautical paper pack: cut a piece of the red cardstock 10x7 inches. Fold in half to create a card base. Cut a piece of the cream cardstock to 9 1/2 x 7 inches; fold in half. Using the Lorna Label Pop Up main die, center and die cut along the fold.

2. Cut a piece of cream cardstock 6 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches. Cut a piece of blue/cream striped cardstock 6 1/2 x 2 inches; adhere to bottom of cream cardstock. From the Basic Black Shimmer Sheetz, cut a thin strip 6 1/2 inches; adhere over the seam as shown.

3. Stamp the compass rose on graph paper from the Far and Away paper pad using Black Soot Distress Ink. Tear it out in a square. Using the blending tool, add Antique Linen Distress Ink around the edges. Crumple.

4. Using the main die from the Lorna Label Pop Up, die cut the label from red cardstock and trim down to just the label. Find the US map in the Far and Away paper pad. Using the banner die, cut flags of varying lengths as desired. Arrange and adhere to the red label as shown; trim from the back with scissors following the label contour. Adhere a piece of cheesecloth from behind as shown.

5. Adhere Peel-Offs (see supplies list below) shown on card to watercolor paper and paint with watercolors. Fussy cut around each - cut the “rope” off the lifesaver. Using your fingers, gently shape by rounding the edges down for all but the lifesaver.

6. Braid a length of blue/white twine to about 9 or 10 inches. Use half to tie a nautical knot. Die cut a banner from the Lorna Label Pop Up set from the cream cardstock; set a red eyelet at each end of the banner and thread ends of twine as shown, adhering and trimming ends behind the banner.

7. Arrange and adhere pieces to front of card as shown, using dimensional tape for the label, shells and banner.

8. From blue cardstock, die cut the label from Lorna Label Pop Up and emboss with stitching; sand lightly to show stitches. Adhere to center of pop up.

9. Cut 6 copies of the Hello word from black cardstock. Glue each layer on top of the other to create a thick stack. Add Glossy Accents to the top layer. Set aside to dry. Cut talk bubble from cream cardstock. Adhere Hello to talk bubble.

10. Using the other half of the braided twine, glue behind the handles of the lifesaver.

11. Color some of the transparent Glitter Dots in matching blue with alcohol marker (optional). Adhere to pop up as shown.

12. Adhere pop up to inside of card. Adhere everything to pop up as shown using dimensional tape.
